Early Sunday morning, 30-year-old Santos Gabriel-Thomas was arrested for aggravated DUI manslaughter after crashing head-on into a Times-Dispatch carrier. Gabriel-Thomas was previously convicted of DUI a year earlier, yet he has never been licenced to drive in the state of Virginia. Gabriel-Thomas entered the country illegally from his country of origin, Guatemala.
Gabriel-Thomas was heading the wrong way on U.S. 58 in the South Hill area and had a blood alcohol content of 0.19% when the accident occurred. Maxey Ann Lynch, 61, was the victim of the head-on collision caused by Gabriel-Thomas and was airlifted to VCU Medical Center where she later passed away.
As well as the aggravated DUI manslaughter charge Gabriel-Thomas faces, he is also charged with DUI second offense and driving without an operator’s licence. Gabriel-Thomas pleaded guilty of all charges and faces 20 years alone with the manslaughter offense.
