23 Year Old Man Killed During 57 Freeway Crash

A 23-year-old man died early Saturday after his car coiled around a tree that was on the side of a freeway on-ramp in Orange County, California.

California Highway Patrol reveals the crash occurred at around 3:10 a.m. on the southbound 57 freeway north of Chapman Avenue.

California Highway Patrol officials coincided with Orange County Fire Authority paramedics to remove a Scion on is side over the dirt area with its entire roof crushed by the tree.

Southern Counties News Service first reported the vehicle swerved off the road, collided with a tree and a light pole then barely missed a homeless encampment along the Santa Ana River.

The driver was the only person in the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene, the CHP revealed.

CHP officials have not yet determined what caused the driver to drive off the road nor whether drugs or alcohol were involved. His name has not been revealed due to pending notification of relatives.

His incident contributes to the rising fatal car accident statistic in California. According to the 2013 Annual Report of Fatal and Injury Motor Vehicle Traffic Collisions, there were 2,853 fatal collisions with subsequently 3,104 people killed in the incidents.
