Big-Rig Truck Hang Off 91 Freeway Overpass In Anaheim

In Anaheim Tuesday, December 2nd, a semi truck crashed into a center divider and was left hanging over the edge of an overpass on the 91 freeway. The event prompted a SigAlert. According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash was said to have happened around three p.m. at State Route 55. The incident was posted to the California Highway Patrol’s online log.

The truck had a unique paint job. The American Flag painted big-rig could be seen from all over hanging off of the overpass. As the truck was left dangling with fate, there was another pressing matter. There were four lanes of traffic that were right underneath it heading northbound. Many photos of the scene were taken and posted on the internet.

It was reported that fuel from the truck and debris from the overpass were in many lanes of traffic. Because of the danger, two of the eastbound 91 lanes were closed down at the 55 according to the California Highway Patrol’s SigAlert that was officially posted around 3:10 p.m. Multiple connectors to the freeway were also blocked off.

None of the local law enforcement officials has a clear indication of what caused the collision to happen. Their greatest assumption is that it resulted from the torrential rains that they had that day which increased the slickness of the freeway.

The weather can have a grave effect on the road if you are not paying attention. Thankfully there were no reported injuries in this accident. Accidents like this happen all the time and people are very lucky to come out of the wreckage unscathed. If that truck had fallen off the overpass, there is no telling what damage would have been done. Trucking accidents are more dangerous because trucks are bigger than average cars and can create more of an impact. If you are in Anaheim and are involved in a crash with a semi truck or a big-rig, make sure you report any injuries to the authorities. If you wish to pursue, further legal options contact an Anaheim personal injury lawyer.

Drunk Motorist Faces Judge After Charges of Vehicular Manslaughter

A motorist who was allegedly drunk when he caused a head-on crash in Rancho Penasquitos in San Diego that killed the other driver pleaded not guilty Thursday to charges of gross vehicular manslaughter while impaired and DUI causing great bodily injury.

Anthony Perez Rodriguez, 30, was allowed to remain free on his already posted $100,000 bail. He faces 12 years in prison if convicted in the death of 61-year-old Enid Mayer-Sheaf of Chula Vista.

San Diego police said Rodriguez was headed east in the 14100 block of Carmel Valley Road on July 22 when his Fiat 500 veered into oncoming traffic and crashed head-on into the victim’s 1987 Chevy Nova shortly before 6:30 p.m.

Enid Mayer-Sheaf died at the scene.

During today’s arraignment, Deputy District Attorney Cally Bright unsuccessfully argued for the defendant’s bail to be increased to $600,000, saying Rodriguez spent the day drinking at a San Diego Padres game, at the Tilted Kilt restaurant/bar, then in Pacific Beach.

Bright said that after the crash, Rodriguez told police he had consumed only one beer, one margarita, and one shot.

But the prosecutor said that 90 minutes after the accident, the defendant’s blood-alcohol level was measured at between .15 and .16 percent, which would have put his blood-alcohol level at about .18 or .19 percent at the time of the crash.

Bright alleged that given the blood-alcohol level, a person of Rodriguez’s height and weight would have had about 10 alcoholic drinks in his system when he was driving.

The prosecutor said that based on the tire friction marks, the victim was trying to avoid the crash by veering to the right when she was hit.

Bright said that after the crash, Rodriguez blamed the victim, saying she came into his lane of traffic.

The prosecutor added that the crash marked a double tragedy for the victim’s family, noting that Mayer-Sheaf was returning from the hospital where her mother-in-law had just died from an illness when the accident happened.

Defense attorney Jan Ronis told the judge that Rodriguez lives in San Diego, has no prior criminal record and works at a new car dealership.

Ronis said his client is already wearing an electronic device that alerts authorities if he’s been drinking.

Bright said, however, 70 percent of all DUI fatalities in the United States are caused by first-time DUI offenders.

Judge David Szumowski ordered Rodriguez to refrain from driving, drinking, and to surrender his temporary driver’s license issued after the crash.

A readiness conference was scheduled for Aug. 18 and a preliminary hearing for Sept. 24

Multi-Vehicle Crash on Interstate 8 in San Diego

On Sunday, April 6th in the city of San Diego there was an awful accident that occurred on Interstate 8 involving a Ford Explorer and multiple other vehicles. The accident left the three people in the Explorer ejected from their car. One of the victims was reported dead on the scene, and the other two left severely injured.

The accident first started around 1:40 a.m. The people inside the Ford were heading east when the driver of the vehicle lost control on the freeway near Hotel Circle. According to the California Highway Patrol, the car had flipped and caused the victims to be ejected from their seats. The three of them were found lying in the road. One individual involved in the accident sustained fatal injuries while the others were left with moderate to severe injuries. It was never confirmed or denied if the passengers in the Explorer were wearing any seat belts, but if you are in a vehicle make sure you take advantage of the safety equipment provided. They are there to save your life and you never know when things like this are going to happen.

The occupants of the Explorer were then taken to the nearest hospital. There were also three other vehicles that suffered from the accident. One of the vehicles is said to have been heavily damaged according to the California Highway Patrol. The information available on the other drivers is little to none. There are no news on their injuries or the make and models of what cars they were driving. All, that is clear, is that they were in a crash caused by this incident.

The Eastbound 8 Freeway was shut down by local authorities temperately at Taylor Street.  However, this raised all sorts of tension between commuters trying to get where they needed to go in a timely manner. There was even a fight that broke out between a motorist and a cab driver. As it’s told, the motorist tried to pass the taxi driver to get on the freeway. Apparently didn’t sit very well with the cab driver.

The important thing, to remember, is that accidents like this are prone to happen from time to time. There are however steps you can take if you do find yourself being in one of these incidents. If you or someone you know live in San Diego and were involved in a collision and are injured, make sure that you contact a accident attorney in San Diego.
